my writing goals for this year were pretty straightforward: basically i wanted to try writing new themes and fandoms and finish up the ongoing fics that i’ve been working on. this quarter was a fairly productive quarter in terms of writing, so i did achieve a few of my goals !

> goal 1: finish writing of all the scales

i’ve been working on this fic for nearly 2 years, just bc i took a 9 month long break from this fic and didn’t touch it at all, but i picked it up again last summer and have been working away at it ! it’s one of two of the last nct fic ideas i have, and once i write both, i’ll feel good to step away from nct ficdom ! 

i did finish this fic !!! on june 23, actually ! the total wc rn is 125k and i definitely have to read it all over before i edit and post but it feels like a weight’s been lifted off my shoulders. this is easily the longest fic i’ve ever written and probably the longest i’ll ever write. anyway, i’m proud of myself for sticking through and finishing this fic even when i really didn’t want to.

> goal 2: post of all the scales

obviously i have to edit before i post, so it’ll probably be another month or so before i even get around to posting, but i don’t really have a problem w that !

> goal 3: write 100k words

i’m on track for reaching this goal, though i think after the 25k hunhee fic and the 125k markhyuck, i’ll probably write relatively short fics for a while. as of june 26, i’ve written 79,910 words this year, so im fairly sure i’ll hit this goal (esp since the fic im focusing on in july has an estimated wc of 20k, though i might cut it down). 

my wc for this quarter was 43.6k, which is kinda wild seeing as i only wrote 8k in april bc i was so busy w school. im getting more comfy w not writing over 20k for every fic now, so this goal doesn’t mean very much to me anymore. if i don’t meet this goal but write all the fics i want to, i’ll be very happy anyway !

> goal 4: write a new fandom

i achieved this goal during the first quarter of the year, when i wrote a cix ship for the first time ! i wrote another hunhee fic this quarter, and they’re my newest ult group, so im happy w this. there’s not very many other groups im interested in writing for atm, apart from cix, tbz, and nct (the 2 fics i have pending).

> goal 5: join a fic fest

lol i dont think this is gonna happen. ncity fic fests have been a hot mess this year, and though there are still good ones out there, i don’t wanna write more nct than i already am, so yeah :) if a cix or tbz fic fest opens up that looks interesting, i might still take it up. other than that, i wanna focus on my own ideas for rn. 

> goal 6: try to write a new trope/setting (scifi, space, sad ending)

my criteria for this one was to write something not in a royal or college setting and i kinda met this one i think ? the hunhee fic i wrote spans 16 years, which is unlike anything i’ve written before bc it’s not childhood friends to lovers, it starts at age 19 and goes to 35 which is new to me ! i did also write canon-compliant for the first time ever, so i think that counts too ! i still wanna write something else that’s more specific to this goal later in the year ! maybe the assassins bbangnyukyu i’ve been thinking ab. 

> new goal: try rereading your own fics

i cannot reread my own fics bc i cringe and default to editing it instead of taking it in like i would any other fic. i wanna get to a point where i can Read and Enjoy my own fics bc i start out writing them for myself in the first place so what’s the point if im not enjoying it ? so yeah idk how im gonna do this but i’ll try to figure it out !

APR - JUN WRITING PLANS REFLECTION

APR:

> of all the scales - markhyuck merfolk au: i finished this in june, but im just glad its over now lol. i wrote maybe 1k of this during april and may, i really only focused on it in the latter half of june. 

MAY: 

> for years to come - hunhee lakehouse au: i finished this at the beginning of june, since it turned out a Lot longer than planned. i have a fic commentary/log type post for this fic coming up too so yes ! it was supposed to be 8-11k and ended up being 25k lol

> untitled - nohyuck soccer au: this is the other nct fic i need write before i can leave the nct ficdom (be free) and i haven’t started this or outlined it yet. it’s my next wip to work on after i post my sangric oneshot !

JUN: 

> untitled - gonhun trainee fic: el oh el i have not started this, and my interest in it has decreased a bit ? i just know its gonna be depressing as hell to write and idk if i can embody those feelings rn without fucking myself up mentally lol ! maybe i’ll pick it up in the fall or something 

> espionage - bbangnyukyu assassins au: i have nothing planned for this fic other than mental images and a feeling. im kinda confused on where i wanna take this fic bc i dont want it to focus on the assassins part very much ? but i do at the same time ? idk i’ll have to figure it out later

overall + future

rn i wanna edit my sangric oneshot and post that. im thinking of doing camp nano in july so i can focus on writing soccer nohyuck and start editing oats. beyond that i have no idea, but i’ll probably make another post w my jul-sept writing plans. 

i know im probably not gonna write more hunhee (at least i hope not no one other than me even ships it), and ive had a good influx of inspo to write tbz again so i think that’s what i’ll focus on ! i wanna write more canon-compliant now that i’ve tried it once ! 

so these are my priorities:

1. edit + post sangric

2. edit oats + start posting chapter by chapter

3. write soccer nohyuck

and idk what else after that, i might even take a break from writing once college starts in august so yeah i dont wanna overwhelm myself.
