questions
looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?
so much less :((( idk i started writing prima facie last year and worked on it all of january and i was consistently writing,,, so i wanted to continue w that momentum and write just as much as i did last year and 2020 but that just didnt happen :// last year i was writing long fics every month basically and my total wc was around 160k and idk ig i thought i would be doing the same this year but my writing slump was sooo long this year. it basically spanned the entire year after march.
i had so many ideas this year but i think i just got really busy and by the time i found time to write that specific idea that i’d been thinking about, my inspiration for it was gone. and that cycle just kept repeating. i lost inspiration halfway through writing fics a lot as well, which is something i usually dont deal with since i try to focus on one fic until i finish writing it. i have like 6 unfinished fics sitting in my gdrive and some are so close to being finished that it literally pains me that i cant finish them.
what pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in january?
ummm literally everything that wasnt tbz sangric lol. i wrote for 2 dramas which is something ive never done before so that was pretty interesting and both of those fics were really short but i did really like writing for them. also verivery fic ??? that was fairly unexpected to me bc i stan so many random groups throughout the year only to lose interest when one of my ult groups have a cb and it usually takes me a while to be comfortable enough to write certain groups so this was just really unusual for me.
im pretty happy with the 3 non-tbz fics i did write this year! i like spontaneously writing short things that dont take much planning beforehand. hopefully i do more of that in 2023.
what’s your own favorite story of the year?
i feel like i have no choice but to say prima facie lmaooo,,, everything else is way under 10k and i spent like 1.5 months writing prima facie and i did really love the concept. i also worked on a hockey/figure skater jumilric that i abandoned in like july but i definitely like that as well. both of those were really comfortable for me to write though,,, like the tropes and themes were all things that ive done before so in terms of writing new things,, i liked my home, my heart (it’s you) bc its different from what i usually write!
did you take any writing risks this year? what did you learn from them?
i wrote for tiny little drama fandoms which was something i didnt think i’d do, but it turned out well and i want to do more in the future.
my best story of the year
gonna have to say prima facie simply bc it’s more fleshed out and planned better than any of the other ones i wrote this year lol.
my most popular story of the year
prima facie again,, first fic i posted this year and longest so,,, that’s to be expected
most fun story to write
my home, my heart (it’s you) was fun to write bc it was genuinely just very lighthearted and sweet,, writing tbz spending time together was just very healing and don’t foget my heart was fun too bc it was always chaeran worrying over jiwoong in the drama and that man needed a wakeup call!!! so it was fun to write him worrying over chaeran for once.
hardest story to write
i would say prima facie bc again it was really long and idk i started really doubting the entire premise of the fic itself in like january when i was basically all done writing it so that sucked and i feel like that ruined my confidence but that happened mostly after i finished writing and was editing,,, i think the one for me was the hardest to write bc there were different details that i felt had to stay true to canon so i was trying my best to keep those details the same which was hard.
top 5 scenes you would choose to have illustrated
> prima facie: eric listening to sangyeon sing for the first time during their little competition and being completely shocked at how good sangyeon is at singing
> prima facie: sangyeon and eric in eric’s studio, eric eating his melona bar and working on music, sangyeon sitting on his couch with the cup of tea eric made for him
> don’t forget my heart: chaeran coming to and finding herself in jiwoong’s arms as he carries her to her apartment
> the one for me: woochan and insol talking outside the house in the middle of the night
> a palette of choices (i don’t know my color): end scene where yongseung is in bed w hoyoung and dongheon and the 3 of them are watching the shark documentary; hoyoung is asleep and dongheon is cowering at the sight of shark teeth lmfao
favorite fic you read this year
here are a few of my fav fics i read this year, not in any order
don't need no body (nobody but you) - popliar (littlerhymes), tullycat
sweet like apple pie - purpletulips
and all the things unsaid, come sweetly to your lips - citruspromenade
golden - poppyseedheart
marriage is a scam (so defraud me) - popliar (littlerhymes), tullycat
Jeté dans l'amour - thanku4urlove
underneath it all - gunwoong
Q&A - crossbelladonna
2022 goal reflection:
i had a few specific goals this year where in the past it’s just been vague goals just meant to inspire me to write,,, which is funny bc i barely wrote this year.
> write a sapphic ship: this didnt happen but i did have a fromis fic idea and a stayc idea,,, didnt write either though.
> write outsider pov: i had a really good milcob fic that i wanted to write through younghoon’s pov but that didnt happen either,,, idk why bc thinking back the idea was pretty interesting and would’ve only been like 5-6k.
> write 75k words: im never really upset if i dont hit my goal wc for a year bc its more in place to encourage me to consistently write,,, i dont care about the actual number that much. but this year there were months that i didnt write a single day,,, and thats a little upsetting to me.
> fic under 5k: i did do that,,, 3 of my 5 were under 5k lmfao,,, good for me though bc ive been writing really long fics all last year and 2020.
> spontaneously start a fic: im notorious for meticulously planning out my fics completely and sitting on my ideas for at least a week before i start writing them,, so writing something spontaneously is hard for me to do. my verivery fic was completely spontaneous and i wrote it all in one sitting and that was just really good. i think it turned out well too,, so that’s encouraging! ive actually spontaneously started several other fics this year but havent been able to finish any of them.
2021 → 2022 au ideas
i had 4 fic ideas that i wanted to carry over and write this year:
1. sangric tour au/sangyeon age regression curse: i did write this fic! it turned out short and sweet! exactly like i wanted and it was fun to write, so im glad i was able to write that earlier this year.
2. milcob lake au: jacob goes missing during a lake trip he and jaehyun take with their friends; this was the outsider pov fic i wanted to write from younghoon’s pov. it would’ve been so good,, the vibes wouldve been amazing if i actually wrote it. but something kept stopping me from starting so eventually i kinda gave up on this one.
3. jumilric ice skating/hockey: this one is in progress,, i started it in like april but stopped writing it after like june. it’s fully outlined but i lost inspiration around june. its sitting at 15k rn,, around 85% done so i do wanna revisit and just finish it and post it. just like with prima facie, i know it’s not my best writing, but i spent a lot of time and energy on it so i do wanna post it!
4. sangric ceo/pizza boy: this was just a silly little idea that was gonna be like 2k and i never got around to writing it but im really not upset about it. it’s one of those little ideas that i know is comfortable enough for me to write that i can randomly start it at any point and finish it in a few hours.
2022 → 2023 au ideas
1. seokgyuhao caretaker: this is my current wip and i want to finish writing this! hopefully before february! mingyu is a caretaker at a guest house that souls come to after they die, before moving on. minghao dies and his soul is brought to mingyu’s guest house. seokmin, minghao’s husband comes looking for him, distraught about his death. they fall in love :D
2. yongbae dating show: i started this fic in like october,, yonghee and jinyoung were each others’ first boyfriends in middle school but they broke up and lost contact as one does in middle school until they find each other again on a dating show that they’re filming. love this concept but i dont think i like yongbae enough to write this fic ? either gonna have to get myself in the mood to write this or change the ship lol.
2023 writing goals
> write 30k words: i feel like with the state of the ideas ive been coming up with, writing shorter fics is a lot easier than long ones atm, so i just wanna give myself a pretty easy goal to reach next year.
> write hyunjae pov: idk why im like scared of writing hyunjae pov but i am,,, but 2023 is gonna be the year i finally write his pov. even if its just for a little drabble or something.
> write svt fic: have a seokgyuhao wip that im currently working on, so i wanna finish that and post it!
> write another drama/book fic: i really enjoyed writing the 2 drama fics i did write this year and i wanna continue that for next year if theres any media that i feel really strongly about
overall
i feel like my writing took a huge hit after writing prima facie so :// but i feel good again about the idea im currently writing,, so hopefully that carries over to 2023! there are so many ideas i have and i want that feeling of fiery motivation to take over me again next year! im also very ok if i want to write for new fandoms or even focus on original works. any writing is better than none!
2022 fic in review
combining this fic commentary thing w this other writing review! this should be pretty short since i only wrote 5 fics.
title: prima facie (sangyeon/eric)
wc: 25,264
commentary: i Loved this concept when i came up with it and honestly the premise is still really dear to my heart. but i hated the way its executed. its meant to be more light and not angsty but i just hate the writing. i just tossed this fic out there bc i was sick of looking at it and idk it was a pretty big miss for me,,, bc i just reread all my fics from the year and i feel like this was the most poorly written of them all. it sucks bc i spent so much time on it but im over it i guess ? love my sangric though <3
title: don’t forget my heart (chaeran/jiwoong)
wc: 3098
commentary: i dont even remember having this idea bc i watched obs in like 3 days completely just in time for the last 2 episodes and idk i just loved chaeran so much so i wanted to write this fic. this is also the shortest fic i’d written since fictober 2020 but i was able to write it so easily which was nice. this really built my confidence in writing fics for dramas! the ending is kinda abrupt and i would’ve liked to change that but endings are always hardest for me to write and i wanted to just write this all in one go so im not too upset.
title: my home, my heart (it’s you) (sangyeon/eric)
wc: 5757
commentary: this was another random idea i had and i wanted to just write sangyeon being taken care of by all the members for no specific reason, and i like writing random things that dont really have any scientific backing! this was another short little fic that i was able to write fairly easily! im happy with it, it was fun to write.
title: the one for me (woochan/insol)
wc: 4240
commentary: no bc i really like how this one turned out. i dont really love the ending but the writing throughout is really good to me. love the concept i came up with and i love the entire racket boys ensemble of characters sooo much,,, loved writing this one! after rereading all of my fics from the year,,, i think im most satisfied w this one and the next one lol.
title: a palette of choices (i don’t know my color)
wc: 2908
commentary: i like how this one turned out too,, the ending is basic but im satisfied with it. as my first verivery fic im pretty happy with how it turned out. i think its cute and i like that i was able to tell a story in less than 3k words bc writing short fics is something i struggled with last year. i just think yongseung is so cute in this one too <3
