august 2021 media roundup!
what did i even do this month. why did it feel thirty years long. why was this month such a mess of media ?

tv shows
i watched exactly half of these shows before going to college and the other at college and it's funny bc all the easier/shorter shows i watched after moving back to campus lol.. its the way my attention span nosedived after coming back to college. anyways.
> outer banks s2: the writers of this show are ruining jj pope and kie’s characters just so they can twist them into making jiara happen like ? did we watch the same s1 ? anyway idec ab the ships that much but jjpope seems more natural to me and the fact that madison bailey wants kie to explore her sexuality more but the writers are forcing jiara to happen,, why. i liked pope’s entire storyline and as always i love jj too ! also drew starkey is such a good actor he had me feeling SYMPATHETIC for rafe at certain points???
> her private life: i feel like all 2018-19 dramas follow like the same themes so i kinda knew what to expect but i still enjoyed this for the most part. it really didnt evoke any crazy feelings in me i watched it over a week and it was fine :D but also eps 15-16 were so unnecessary bc like why do the main leads always need to meet as kids and have their traumas connected it’s so unrealistic but again 2019 drama so i was expecting it. but i feel like that entire storyline could’ve been used more to explore ryan and his mom’s reconnection or ryan’s journey w painting again or even how hyojin and eungi got together ?
> fugou keiji: balance unlimited: the plot of this anime was kinda really strange but i still watched it the entire way through and it was worth it bc i loved the ending scene. literally if a show has a good enough ending scene then it’ll automatically get rated higher in my mind and yes this ending scene was soo good. anyway i am daiharu fan and i liked watching them solve their little cases together <3
> soljiwan cuts of nevertheless: i didnt wanna watch the mess that nabi and jaeeon are so i only watched the soljiwan cuts and T_T my loves i love them so much :( i loved their storyline they could’ve made them the main couple and i would’ve watched the shit out of it. anyways this was a great 1.5 hour spent i hope sk makes more sapphic dramas i would eat it up. did anyone else tear up when jiwan asked sol to like only her bc i Did. and then i watched so many edits. childhood best friends to lovers supremacy !!!!!!! i will die on this hill.
> light on me: noh shinwoo my sweet boy whose ears turn red whenever he gets embarrassed, whose love language is acts of service, who’s bad at using his words but is always so thoughtful, who goes 40 mins out of his way everyday to feed a cat, who cares so much about his friends, who loves romance movies :((((( i will be honest i do Not care about non-shinwoos i am sorry. taekyung is okay im glad daon understood that he needs to work on himself before dating anyone and namgung is such a good friend i love him too. also im convinced that the stylists knew what they were doing whenever they put shinwoo in black sweatshirts/jackets he looked Stunning. i dont even have thoughts other than me rambling about noh shinwoo he’s just best boy.

i watched like no kpop content this month bc i was watching a lot of tv during the beginning of the month and then i watched nothing after moving to college so pls excuse the lack of cix content here i promise im fix :D
> the boyz mafia dance: this is like the funniest thing ive watched. sangyeon’s wake up call at the end really sealed the deal for me i love him.
> weeekly mafia dance: weeekly my babeys my poor jihan :( this was so funny the highlight was absolutely monday being confused as hell at the end when the actual mafias were revealed.
> the boyz weekly idol: tbz are so entertaining actually imagine calling out mc kwanghee for not realizing the person he texted the night before was not in fact eric nam but eric sohn of the boyz lmfao. and the fact that this happened in the first 5 mins ?? tbz are not real this was very fun though <3

books
august is my annual reading slump month something ab the end of summer just makes me incapable of reading and sure enough i read nothing at the beginning of the month and then it took me 2 weeks to read one book so :D
> the gilded wolves (roshani chokshi): this book was confusing as hell it did not help my slump at all,, i dont like the author’s writing style, ive tried reading one of her other books but the prose was just so … idk i didnt like it so i dnfed that one but everyone raves ab tgw so i decided to read it and the characters >>> i love enrique and laila !! i will be reading the rest of this series but i will be reading a romance to get rid of my slump first :D hopefully i come back w a better book section next month.
> beach read (emily henry): lmfao i think its so funny how i finished reading this literally an hour and a half before the end of the month. anyways idk if this got me out of my reading slump tbh but it was a pretty enjoyable book ! the romance wasnt my fav part actually i really liked january dealing w her dad’s death and cheating situation more,, i felt like it was more complex than the romance but it was good and easy to read !

i read a random assortment of fics this month there’s really no rhyme or reason or even anything i was Super Super obsessed w this month.
> Now Casting: PERMAFROST! - princepixel: i dont particularly care for noren That much but i can appreciate their dynamic and the writers are so fucking good so i read noren whenever i see a good fic (runner boy & his cup ? jump:start ? noren writers are amazing) and THIS FIC !!! ice skating is always so interesting to me and everything about this fic is perfect <3 i love it.
> Go away and come back new - popliar (littlerhymes): im such a huge fan of realizing who it is that has been by your side all along and slowly falling in love w them trope and this one was so wonderful :( i will not lie i misread the ship and thought it was juric but then i got like ¼ into the fic and i was like theres no way juric is happening and yeah . . it was milric but i Loved it !!!! there’s really no tbz ship that i like despise so yeah i really liked this one !!
> everyone else is covered in bruises but we feel alone - theinvisibledisaster: i cannot actually. i watched light on me and became NOH SHINWOO fan and this fic is more like a shinwoo character study and its perfect,, shinwoo being the type of guy to just give and give to make others happy and comfortable, even if that results in him being alone . . . shinwoo :(( i love the open-ish ending and yeah i loved this one.
> performing below expectations: a workplace guide to self-improvement by lee donghyuck - starlikeeyes: this fic is straight comedy to me donghyuck is so nosy but it’s endearing lol. norenmin’s characterization is Perfect to me. also fics that have cool formatting/html always makes me so heart eyed like how are you already so good at writing but also coding i am obsessed.
> It Takes Two - Mntsnflrs: i love the setting of this fic.. twitch streamers ? ive never read a fic w this trope before and i was so pleansantly surprised even though i already knew it would be good bc of the author (who else loves mntsnflrs here?) and nohyuck has become so dear so me like its top 3 ships ever for me.

this is exactly what i expected tbh tbz and cix at the top like i knew they’d be. i already talked ab most of this in my last post but i said that there’s no cix song on this album that i thought i’d get super obsessed w but there is… IN & OUT !!!! it’s such a good song i’ve been listening to it in the mornings when walking to class and im obsessed. baejin and seunghun’s voices fit so sweetly and especially HYUNSUK in this song ?? i love him. my top 4 off this album are in & out, off my mind, lost, and ice. confession only got that high bc the first 10s are so quiet idk what song it is and when i realize and skip it, it’s already counted as a scrobble. anyways.
writing
seeing that i posted 2 chapters of oats finally !!! i think this was a pretty productive writing month ? my wc from this month was like 3k but the thing that matters is that i edited all of oats and editing is always harder and less fun for me to do than write so yeah i think i did good . i also started outlining espionage which is super fun its so fun to write non college and non canon fics imo! in my jul-sept writing plans post i said i wanted to edit oats in august and start espionage in september and im on track for that ??? kinda happy kinda proud of myself for that lol.
overall
this month wasnt as dry as i thought it would be but that’s bc i consumed like the majority of this media before classes started for me ! next month i wanna watch a couple movies, try to get out of this reading slump and just continue to write,, there’s nothing too specific i wanna do but now that ive gotten over the initial homesickness/adjustment of a new semester im sure my media consumption will be more normal next month :D
