february was simultaneously a good and a shitty month,, im having a great ass day as i write this so we will pretend its been good all month long :D fair warning though my media consumption was kinda wacky this month.
watching
movies
i did it guys i watched 2 movies this month,,, neither were that good though i have nothing to say for myself.
> kapoor & sons: sometimes i just have the urge to watch bollywood but i dislike a lot of the mainstream bollywood movies bc they are usually very harmful and targeted towards older, conservative indian ppl and yeah that doesnt appeal to me. but like indie indian movies that feature lgbt stories are so emotionally hard for me to consume,,, i will eventually watch them though,,, with lots of emotional preparation beforehand.
Anyways i need to stop talking but i watched this movie bc i know a lot of ppl like it and it seemed alright when my parents watched it and i did like it! i love media that explores sibling dynamics bc theyre just so interesting and complex and this did it pretty well,, also i relate very very very hard to fawad khan’s character bc the indian lgbt eldest sibling ? yeah ok. it was so funny to me that they made rahul gay and pointed out the fact that he couldnt drive multiple times,,, that was so funny to me. i like fawad khan most out of this entire cast im sorry to sid and alia but idk i think that plus other obvious reasons made me really identify w rahul like Very much. this movie isnt a masterpiece but it has a lot of heart and i enjoyed it <3
> love & leashes: erm yes i watched this so i could understand wtf the tl was talking about,,, and i kinda liked it lol. i dont have a lot of in depth thoughts but it was interesting and i liked how they explored their relationship platonically before it ever became romantic. i hated the random ass conflict thrown into the last 15 minutes like Why,,, was the emotional turmoil not enough why did we need all that.

i finished both bad buddy and our beloved summer in the last week of january,,, so i had trouble finding anything to keep my attention at the beginning of february. i went two weeks watching no tv and just watching kpop variety.
> user not found: i need to stop putting myself thru these school dramas for my kpop boys… i Dislike school dramas,, esp webdramas (guy who watches wayyyy too many school dramas to be saying this). anyways out of yohan, younghoon, and baejin’s dramas, i still enjoyed lovrev most. also why did this drama have similar elements as true beauty genuinely thought i was watching true beauty at some points. i think the 2 minjaes should’ve dated i think they had a lot of chemistry and i loved watching their scenes together. as for baejin,, i think the guy can act (?) but his character was literally a cha eunwoo character and i hated that… like the scene in the last ep where he was smiling and joking around w minjae was So Good it redeemed his acting i wish we had seen more of that throughout the show. this was okay,, it was short enough that i didnt feel like i really wasted my time (unlike yohan’s drama,,, i really suffered through that one)
kpop content
idk what took over me this month lol i watched an insane amt of variety for my standards.
> saessak harmony: piwon my loves <3 this show was so charming and the pool episodes were actually hilarious,, definitely my favs. i watched the first ep last year when i first learned p1h but i never continued (i cant remember why) but i watched this at the beginning of this month w other various p1h content and <33 i love them sm. i do enjoy 01z a lot,, those are my besties.
> fromis_9 weekly idol & mafia dance: i love fromis music so i thought i would Finally check the group out and they are so funny,,, their weekly idol ep was so funny i genuinely love them,, hayoung and gyuri are my favs <3
> the mysterious classroom (eps 6-8): i finally finished the treasure webdrama… why was the last episode so sad,,, really had me crying over ghost haruto. trsr really improved their acting like dobby and junghwan had me hating their characters for real. im glad that the ost for this webdrama isnt on spotify so i can keep the embarrassing number of times i listened to it off my lastfm stats lol. trsr vocal line is so talented.

> the hawthorne legacy (jennifer lynn barnes): this book was nowhere as good as the first one,,, all that commotion only for toby to not be her dad ? why was was avery running around w both jameson and grayson when there was a chance that they could be her cousins ? idk. there was so much time spent setting things up for the third book that this one kinda fell flat to me,,, and i was in a reading slump for most of this month so it took me like 2 weeks to read this one.
> get a life, chloe brown (talia hibbert): its embarrazzing that tiny little things like having a non white mc in romance books makes me like it so much more but idk talia hibbert is a good writer and this did what it could for my reading slump :D my reading this year has been crazy (derogatory) idek whats going on at this point or how i even fix it.
> haikyuu (volumes 25-26): idk why i started reading the manga again but its nice to read one chapter each night before i read whatever other book im reading,, thinking ab 2020 when i was insanely deep in my hq phase,, weird times !

wait i remembered why i started reading hq again lol,, i read like 12 matsuhana fics and i couldnt remember shit ab either character so thats what kicked off me reading hq again,,, icb that was this month. anyways!

> warm me up! by Pammie: obsessed. genuinely obsessed. i missed the star trek tag which is a good thing bc i know nothing ab star trek and probably wouldnt have read it if i had noticed that. but this fic was Amazing,,,, milcob exes stranded on a deserted planet,,, amazing genuinely. i felt everything so vividly.

can we talk about YOUNG LUV ?! i think its my fav stayc song now :D i love it so much. when i first listened to the album i was certain that either 247 or butterfly would be my fav but YOUNG LUV !!! i want u baby is so good too and run2u definitely grew on me. she’s not beating stereotype or so bad but she’s not bad at all.
i did like taeyeon’s album too,, i think my favs are invu, siren, and some nights. im excited though bc groups i stan are Finally coming back. also circuit board by raveena is so good,,,, i do this thing where i limit the amt of times i listen to my fav songs so i dont get sick of them in 2 weeks,,, so young luv and circuit board are both getting that treatment rn lol. im excited for weeekly wei and CIX !!! its only a jpn release but everyday we get closer to getting them back,, i miss them so bad
writing
dont even wanna talk ab the crazy creating slump ive been in all year. i posted prima facie Finally,, have not looked at it since i posted,, its whatever. also posted the 2k jiwoong/chaeran fic i impulsively wrote,, and thats it. i started a new sangric but i just have so little time to write,, and im someone who only really writes consistently if i do a little everyday,, and i havent been having the time to do that lately.
basically what im figuring out is that im getting as busy as i was before march 2020 and at that point, i hadnt written for almost a year. so like im kinda in the same place w how busy i am, but i got used to being able to write consistently so it sucks that i dont have as much time anymore. i wanna still make time to write, even if it’s not a lot everyday. also its so fun writing random little ficlets for random kdrama ships so i think i might just do that for now, esp when im still trying to get out of whatever slump im in.
overall
had a decent month overall,,, it felt really long but it went by quick. i feel like i got a lot done. also got really sick last week for no reason which is why this roundup is being posted late </3 im ok now though and i have spring break next week which i am holding on to w both hands,,, i cannot wait. maybe i wll use my time to get organized and get rid of my writing slump !!! i hope everyone had a wonderful february and i hope everyone gets lots of sunshine in march <33

Date: 2022-03-02 05:50 am (UTC)I agree with your comments on Love and Leashes, I liked that it started out platonic, and I don't think the plot needed to explode at the end to push them together. They could have decided to date without all of that. Just went to check what I wrote in my review and it was this:
"I also didn't enjoy the last half-hour or so of the movie as much as the rest, because the director must have thought "We can't have delightful kink the entire movie! We need stakes (risk of people finding out that they're secretly partners in kink), a climax (when people do find out), and a resolution (they don't lose their jobs, and they continue their partnership while also dating)." To which I say, "WHY CAN'T we have delightful kink the entire movie?!" They could've decided to date without the plot exploding to push them together."
I am wary of Bollywood (and in my native language, Tollywood). I think the last thing I watched in its entirety which had Hindi in it was the show, Made In Heaven.
I had a writing slump for a couple of years and Very Short Fics were the way I tiptoed my way out of it. I have trouble writing regularly as well, because of the Big Girl Job I'm doing. I hope we're both able to find the time/inspiration to write to our satisfaction again! ♡

honestly i never watched bollywood until i left for college,, and im pretty sure its just bc i wanna hear hindi since i hear a lot less at college. i know that there are good indie movies made by indian directors so i do wanna check some of those out !!
very short fics seem to be the only thing im capable of writing these days but i'll take it! its better than writing nothing,,, but yes hoping we can both write more <33

Exactly, and very short fics can be as impactful as long ones; they might take less effort but still. Longer fics aren't inherently better. That said, I like staying with an idea/verse for a while, I enjoy seeing where it goes, so I hope we both get to experience that again <3
